Forbes Marshall Shines at AWC 2024: Advancing Water Chemistry in Nuclear Power

The AWC 2024 Symposium, jointly organized by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), and the Indian Institute of Metals, Mumbai Chapter, brought together experts to discuss the critical role of water chemistry in nuclear power plants.

Water chemistry plays a vital role in influencing material-water interactions within nuclear reactors. Effective water chemistry management helps mitigate corrosion, radiation build-up, and maintain fuel clad integrity in the primary circuit. Additionally, controlling water chemistry in the secondary circuit is essential for addressing flow-accelerated corrosion in carbon steel pipelines.

Corrosion challenges, such as stress-corrosion cracking in austenitic stainless steels and high nickel-containing alloys in boiling water reactors, have been effectively addressed through advanced water chemistry control strategies.

At this symposium, Mr Aditya Kanetkar (Forbes Marshall India) and Ms Maria del Mar Nogales Lopez (SWAN Analytische Instrumente, Switzerland) presented their paper titled “Analysis of Corrosion Products in Water Steam (WS) Cycle”, contributing valuable insights to this important discussion.
