Vertical Drying Ranges (VDR)

Vertical drying ranges or VDRs are widely used in the textile industry to dry fabric at various stages of production. This helps maintain fabric quality, prepares it for further processing, and improve handling, storage, and efficiency in subsequent treatments.

Drying typically consumes about 15-20% of a plant’s total steam. Wet cloth passes through a series of vertically arranged drying cylinders heated by steam, where moisture is evaporated as the fabric moves over them.

Plants often face challenges such as uneven drying and improper moisture levels in the fabric. Typically, while outlet moisture required is about 6-7%, actual moisture observed is less than 1-2% resulting in 10-15% excess steam consumption in the VDR.
