Condensate contains almost 20% of the fuel energy consumed while generating steam in the boiler. To save energy, recover condensate.
When steam condenses by giving away its latent heat, the resulting condensate is still at the same temperature as that of steam. This heat, termed sensible heat, can be recovered.
Heat in condensate is about 20% of the fuel energy burnt in the boiler. For example, for steam at 3 bar g, the energy content of the condensate formed (144 Kcal/kg) is 22% of the total steam energy (654 Kcal/kg).
A plant can significantly reduce its fuel bill by completely and effectively recovering and utilising the heat in condensate.
