Women form a significant yet often unseen part of the urban and rural labour markets, facing unique challenges such as workplace harassment, unequal pay, and limited access to basic amenities. Recognising these hurdles, our Worker Facilitation Centres (WFCs) act as vital bridges, linking informal workers and migrant households to essential social security provisions.

Recently, the Chakan WFC took a major step toward empowerment by conducting an On-the-Job Training (OJT) programme for women migrants in the construction sector. The programme focused on skill-building, enabling participants to excel as professional masons.

A special event was held at the Chakan WFC office to celebrate their journey. Certificates and toolkits were distributed to 13 female trainees who completed the OJT. Our members also joined the celebration, emphasising their commitment to uplifting the workforce.
The event not only recognised the trainees’ achievements but also equipped them with First Aid Kits to address minor workplace injuries, paired with guidance on their usage. Women were encouraged to refine their skills further, positioning themselves as skilled artisans capable of securing brighter futures.

The gratitude expressed by the trainees and their trainers was a testament to the impact of these efforts. Initiatives like these are steps toward reducing gender disparities in informal work sectors, ensuring that every woman receives the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

Together, we continue to build an equitable and inclusive workforce!
