Improving drying process and productivity at a food manufacturer

The plant faced several issues in the drying process, a crucial step in manufacturing which was significantly impacting productivity. The water hammer due to condensate accumulation in the dryer was leading to leaks in the radiator coils. While the water hammer caused frequent downtimes for radiator coil maintenance, condensate accumulation was resulting in lower heat transfer, preventing the dryer from reaching the required temperatures.

Forbes Marshall engineers carried out a detailed study of the plant and implemented a comprehensive solution to eliminate the dryer bottlenecks. Additionally, the steam loss from the trap installed on the oil heating tank was also addressed. As a result, the plant realised significant fuel savings, reduced steam consumption, and increased overall process efficiency.
